Whether you can believe it or not, we are just about at the halfway point of the 2018 regular high school football season.

For all those camps, combines and 7-on-7 events that continue to take place during the off-season, preparing the athletes for the year ahead, the window continues to get shorter and shorter.

Once the regular season begins, everything that the athlete did in a t-shirt and shorts is long forgotten. This is when scholarships are awarded and validated – and not on some park in Kissimmee or a school field in Bradenton.

This is the time of year when college coaches have to take care of their own business, but are never far from the recruiting trail. In fact, each school across the country – especially the successful ones- never stop the recruiting process. They can’t afford to.

For all the talking that happens in the off-season, where scholarships are awarded by what goes on in camps, here is where job are won and lost.

Nobody envies those who have to be a part of the recruiting world of today. It is an organized mess, with too many people getting involved, and that can never be a good thing.

What is a good thing are the 3 players we check out every Thursday. Many that you already know – while others are certainly making it into the spotlight for the first time.

Today’s 3 For Thursday is a mix of talent that is already on the radar – with those looking to grab some of that coveted spotlight:

2020 – Ryle Aguila, QB, Hialeah. Up until this season, there weren’t a lot of people who were familiar with this rising standout.

After leading all of south Florida a year at Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines, he made his move to compete for the Thoroughbreds this season, and has certainly turned heads.

From the summer, when he started to get into the mix with his new school, this was someone who made some major strides – with a strong arm and plenty of accuracy.

Has been instrumental in the success of this team so far this season.

2019 – Clifton Miller, RB, Miramar. Even though the Patriots were dealt a blow when one of its top young runners transferred out, there was a feeling that this program had a few surprises for everyone.

One of those players that many didn’t know a whole lot about was Miller. Easily one of the hardest runners in south Florida who has truly made an impact for a program that is ready for a positive run.

Has very good speed, tremendous balance and an opportunity to be very special in leading the program back to the playoffs.

2019 – D’Sean Perry, DE, Miami Gulliver Prep. We have been watching this young man for three season – and when you look back at every year – there has always been improvement.

From his 6-1, 180 pound frame just two years ago, this Virginia commitment has certainly showcased a student/athlete who benefitted from being around this program in a major way.

A very gifted pass rusher who will continue to learn every year, and with a chance to be special at a very good program, this is a name we will hear for a long time to come.
