As we get set to open the 2018 season, with kickoff classics today and right through the weekend, it is a reminder that the regular season is a week away.

In an area that receives as much attention as any region in the country, we are just one week away from the start of a season that promises to be exciting - with Orlando being the final destination in December.

Over the next three months, we will have some of the biggest games and the largest stars in the country, week after week, that you can not see anywhere else in this nation.

When you are a south Florida football player, you have seen it all. From the fastest runners to skilled prospects that end up in the NFL.

Speaking about prospects, there are so many in this region that the job of promoting them is never done - and when we come out with our pre-season player rankings this next week, it is only an extension of what we do year round.

As we do every week, it’s all about spotlighting football talent - and we bring you 3 players to keep an eye on:

2020 - Council Allen, WR/DB, Hialeah American. One of the new faces that burst onto the scene over the past year at the high school level, and he has turned heads everywhere he’s been.

This is solid football prospect - as he heads into his junior season - that can help his team in many ways. Because of his ability to lineup at several positions on the field, Allen will be a player that is certainly going to be in the spotlight. In addition to being a solid player on both sides of the ball, his skills as a returner will be huge once again.

2019 - Gary Cooper, TE, Miami Christopher Columbus. On a team that is loaded with athletes - and at a position that is often not spotlighted as much - here is a true difference maker. An athlete that is big (6-2, 230), strong and can run. Has the ability to help the Explorers move the ball.

If you watched him perform a year ago, you already know that he can catch and block. This is one of those fast-rising athletes that has a chance to be very special this coming season for a program that is one of the favorites to win it all in 8A this season. His coaches have been raving about his potential the past two years.

Following in the footsteps of teammate, Jeramy Passmore, he committed to Indiana.

2019 - Billy Pierre, WR, 6-1, 175, Hollywood McArthur. In an off season where many moves were made, here is a talented young man who comes over from rival South Broward, reuniting with his quarterback for his final season at the high school level.

This is a solid football talent who stretches the field and can catch the ball against just about anyone. His length and quickness - along with his skill level - will certainly add to what the Mustangs are doing in West Hollywood this coming season.

Watching him play over the past two years, this is NOT someone who will just blend in. He has the chance to be very special for first year head coach Pierre Senatus and his explosive offense.
