With the first week of the 2018 high school football season now behind us, it is time to look back at some of those prospects who used those huge forums to their benefit.

Often times, there are so many gifted athletes in this region -identifying all of them would be impossible.

What we do every Thursday during the course of an entire year, is bring you area prospects who are stepping up – and have started to turn heads.

With our pre-season information and rankings now out and done for this year, we now look at the prospects who were rated – and those who were not – and see if their game has improved over the past few months.

Often times, athletes blow up in the middle of the summer, when speed and athleticism come into play at 7-on-7 events, or even camps and combines. And, while colleges like what they see when these young men make these amazing plays, it’s what happens right now – when the lights are on – that matters.

If any college or university is recruiting players, who will be counted on heavily each fall, on what they see in summer 7-on-7 leagues, they will not be at that school very long. Fact!

Doing what we have done for a long time for our athletes, it’s the season to bring you THREE prospects for this week who you need to get out and watch.

2020 – Douglas Emilien, WR, 6-0, 185, Plantation American Heritage. When this class graduates in May of 2020, this will be a player that everyone will look at as a major recruit. He has EVERYTHING you are searching for in a receiver. His size, speed and strength have put him in a position where very few pass catchers are right now. His offers will start to pour in when schools watch him further, now that he is in his junior season. Another big time football talent that this program has – for now and into the future. Coached by Pat Surtain.

2023 – Brandon Inniss, WR/DB, 5-11, 165, Fort Lauderdale NSU University School. No, you didn’t misread this. What you are seeing is easily one of the nation’s best 8th graders, who is certainly NOT something you watch every day. Seeing him play in person, you have to remind yourself that he should be playing Saturdays at the local youth park – and not on a high school varsity team. This is indeed a big time player who has five years to showcase skills that are amazing right now, as a 14-year-old! Coached by Daniel Luque.

2019 – Cecil Powell, S, 6-1, 195, Sunrise Piper. An elite prospect in the making who has had the talent all along – but has never been exposed. That is all changing this year – as Miami Norland found out in the opener. Not only is he a tremendous safety, but also a big time returner on special teams – with blazing speed and amazing instincts. The rush to recruit him has started. Coached by David Coleman.
