SCOUTING: If you’ve been around football long enough, you certainly know how fickle this sport can be.

Take this young man, who started out at Hallandale High as a very athletic and promising talent. Because he was so young, it was tough to get a read on what he was bringing to the table. After a change of schools and adding plenty of maturity and size, we found out.

When he lined up for the Chiefs last season, we were watching a defensive linemen grow and learn – and in the process – making himself known to just about everyone who played, coached or followed the sport.

In just a year, Ray went from a promising football player to a big time, play-making prospect that colleges and universities were making a play for.

What this young man brings to the table – as he committed recently to the University of South Florida – is a relentless pass rusher that will dictate what happens up front. He is NOT a “bull rushing strong guy, as one evaluation said.”

This is someone who has become one of the elite defensive linemen in this region, and those who didn’t recruit him, can only watch as he will put on a show for the area’s No. 1 team.
