PLAYER: JoJo Nunez

SCHOOL: Doral Academy

CLASS: 2019

WEIGHT: 175

SCOUTING: For those of you who followed his career in high school, you know that this is someone who has always been about basketball - from as early as he can remember.

Growing up in a basketball family, football was never really in the future. But something happened on the way to play for the impressive Firebirds’ basketball team, he started to do well on the football field.

Combining the skills that he has long used on the basketball court, Nunez found a way, as a receiver and defensive back, to showcase some impressive skills. He showed a toughness that is rare for those coming from basketball - and head coach Jase Stewart was impressed.

In his game against defending 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna, he showed his quickness, athletic ability and turned some heads, with many coming away impressed at how he plays the game for someone who hasn’t been around the football field for any length of time.

Nunez happens to be the son of Doral Academy, Principal Tiger Nunez, a one-time standout Miami High basketball player and Athletic Director, who knows a little bit about competing at a high level. He watched Udonis Haslem play basketball and football for the Stingarees.
