Larry Blustein

PLAYER: Charlie Rothkopf

POSITION: DT/OC

SCHOOL: Parkland Douglas

CLASS: 2019

HEIGHT: 5-10

WEIGHT: 225

SCOUTING: As his name was read at a recent banquet ending the school year, honoring students at Parkland Douglas High, Charlie Rothkopf stood when his name was announced - and was overwhelmed as fellow students, teachers and parents all came to their feet as this impressive student/athlete was honored with the “Strength & Courage Scholarship”.

Back on February 14th, Rothkopf’s life, like so many who attended the school, changed forever, as 14 students and 3 coaches, including one of his favorites, Coach Aaron Feis, were tragically killed. During that tragedy, there were so many heroes who stepped up that didn’t make the news or grab the headlines. Rothkopf was indeed one of those who showed his leadership by saving a life of a fellow student who had been wounded.

That kind of real life courage has given the leader of the 2018 Eagles just what is needed to help this program continue to make a playoff push and replace those quality athletes who had graduated - along with Coach Feis.

As a defensive nose tackle, Rothkopf is strong, has tremendous balance and is quick enough to make plays. His work ethic is unmatched and will be a huge part of head coach Willis May’s team that also features a number of younger players this coming season.

As a selection to the True19 prospect list, Rothkopf is still after a college offer that will fit his style of play. But at the end of the day, what happened on Valentine’s Day was indeed a game-changer as lives were lost, causes were formed and heroes were recognized!
