As the summer began, and the workouts and school visits started, it was yet another reminder that high school football and recruiting never ends

As much of the attention nationally has been on the NHL and NBA, football continues to take cebter stage, and there is no chance of a letup until the season starts in August.

With school now finished, this is when you will see coaches and prospects taking off to college and universities nationwide – in hopes of catching the eye of coaches who can award scholarships.

The summer is indeed one of those periods where plenty of eyes are on you – at every 7-on-7, camp or combine you attend. There are easily more people watching you during the summer months than any other time of the year.

With so many talented football players in South Florida, there is never enough time to give them all exposure, but we try.

Today, we have three prospects who are as good as you will find, and the recruiting is starting to heat up for two seniors and a junior:

2019 – Semar Melvin, CB, 6-0, 170, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. At a program that usually has more than its share of talent at just about everywhere, here is a quality young man who has grown and matured with this football program. As he heads into his final year at the high school level, this talented football player is now getting the looks he deserves, and is ready, like his teammates to get back to Orlando.

2020 – Daryl Porter, Jr., CB, 5-11, 170, Plantation American Heritage. The son of former St. Thomas Aquinas, Boston College and NFL standout is now considered one of the best in the class. While it helps to have a father who played the game at a high level, teaching and coaching, it is also is important to have nationally-rated athletes to compete against every day in practice. This is going to be an elite player over the next few years.

2019 – Darius Williams, LB, 6-1, 210. Miami Norland. As you know already – if you have spent any time in South Florida, athletes – even gifted prospects – can be overlooked. Here is one of the best linebackers in South Florida, and as many other athletes were receiving, this spring saw his stock rise and several colleges started to show interest in this playmaker.
