Josh Donaldson Surprises Mom With Maserati After She Wins Bet to Quit Smoking

Josh Donaldson is taking the season of giving to heart this year.

Two years ago, the free agent slugger made a deal with his mother, Lisa French, that if she stopped smoking he would buy her a brand-new Maserati.

On Friday, Donaldson followed through on his promise.

The 34-year-old rolled posted a video on his Instagram of himself rolling up in the driveway honking the horn of the $70,000 car with a red bow on it as he tried to surprise his mother.

As French appeared out of the garage, she immediately knew what was up and started screaming “Oh my God” and running in circles before she jumped into Donaldson’s arms.

Donaldson, who was raised by his mother while his father spent most of his childhood in prison, said in the caption the pact was made two years ago that if she cut out cigarettes, he’d buy her the fancy car.

“2 years of not smoking and here is her early Christmas present,” he said. “Trust me, you are going to want to watch this.

Meanwhile, Donaldson is still seeking a prize of his own. The third baseman is looking for a new deal after winning NL Comeback Player of the Year with the Atlanta Braves, hitting .259/.379/.521 with 37 home runs in 2019.

With Anthony Rendon signing a $245 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, Donaldson is now the best third baseman on the market and is expected to score a robust multi-year deal himself, although to a lesser degree.

Whether it is with the Braves or elsewhere, Donaldson will surely be able to pay off the Maserati with no problems.
