It’s official: the Mets and Yankees will indeed play at Citi Field on Sept. 11, 2021, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Major League Baseball released its 2021 master schedules on Thursday afternoon, with that 9/11/21 Subway Series game one of the highlights of a slate that will see all 30 teams in action on Opening Day, set for April 1, 2021.

The annual Subway Series will be six games, with the first three also slated for a holiday: the Mets and Yankees will play three in The Bronx from July 2-4. The Citi Field half then comes in September, a three-game set from Sept. 10-12.

Otherwise, the Yankees will start and finish the season at home, with their 4/1 opener set against Toronto and their Oct. 3 season finale against Tampa Bay, and will be home for all the holidays – as in, they will play at Yankee Stadium on Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, July 4 (against the Mets), and Labor Day.

The Mets, meanwhile, will begin the season on the road, their April 1 opener the first of three games in Washington against the Nationals. They will play six games on the road before opening Citi Field on April 8 against the Marlins, and they will finish their home slate with three against Miami on Sept. 28-30 before closing the season with a three-game trip to Atlanta Oct. 1-3.

Other items of note from the general MLB schedule release: all interleague games will be geographical, the same as 2020, with the Easts, Wests, and Centrals playing each other; The 91st Annual All-Star Game at Truist Field in Atlanta will be held on July 13; and, as mentioned above, with the universal Opening Day scheduled, the 2021 season could be the first since 1968 where all 30 teams play their first game of the season on the same calendar date.
