Just after an opening week that saw so many quality matchups, week two brings some more quality contests.

As Miami-Dade and Broward continues to impress, this week will see some traditional games as well as out of the area matchups that will get the attention of those who follow the game nationally.

Like every week, we will continue to bring you some key games to keep an eye on:

No. 4 Central at No. 13 Booker T. Washington (Traz Powell), Friday, 7:30. This is a true classic that throwing out all records would be wise. These two championship teams have had a tremendous rivalry that produced several state championships.

No. 3 Northwestern at No. 6 Columbus (Tropical), Friday, 7:30. Last year, in a game shortened by weather, the 6A state champion Bulls rolled past the Explorers. As 2018 begins, both of these teams have high hopes of ending up in Orlando in December. Quality matchup.

North Miami at No. 7 Southridge, Friday, 7:30. After opening win against Miami High last week, the Pioneers take a serious talent leap this week as a very impressive Spartan team awaits at home with weapons all over the field. This is a game where both teams will build on – win or lose.

No. 5 Deerfield Beach at Griffin, Ga., Friday, (8:30). Last week, the Bucks went into Hollywood and beat Chaminade-Madonna. This week, head coach Jevon Glenn and his team plays one of the top five programs in the country – and they are stacked. This is a game where Deerfield will find out a lot about this young team.

No. 8 American Heritage at St. Joseph’s Region, N.J. (Milton, Ga.), 1:30., Saturday. After losing for the first time in 28 games, the Patriots are on the road in the Freedom Classic against one of the nation’s top football teams. Coach Pat Surtain’s team needs to use this game to get the program back on track.
