When south Florida football teams kickoff the fourth week of the season, there will be some very important games that will make a difference.

As many teams head into their district and regional games, post season playoffs will start to come into focus – and that is what everyone will be paying attention to.

So far this season, we have found that the teams in this region of the state are easily among the best you will find everywhere.

With key matchups taking place every week, football fas are getting their fill of elite players and quality games, pitting some of the best in the country.

Each week, there are games that will move into the spotlight. Here are the contests that will grab everyone’s attention:

No. 15 Jackson (Miami) at No. 14 Cardinal Gibbons, Friday, 7. When the season started, there were only two teams mentioned as favorites to compete for the 5A playoffs. Two-time defending state champion American Heritage and the Chiefs. After three games, the Generals of Jackson have shown much improvement. By the time this game ends, we will know who are the contenders and who will need to fight hard the rest of the season.

Miramar at No. 10 Plantation (PAL), Friday, 7. Last season, while rolling to a district title, the Patriots were impressive and loaded with talent. One of the programs that they beat were head coach Steve Davis and the Colonels. Plantation has been one of the best kept secrets this season, loaded with outstanding athletes – and we will find out on Friday evening if they are ready to make that next move – at home! The Patriots are still stacked with young playmakers.

American at Hialeah (Hendricks), Friday, 7:30. On the surface this may not be a marquee game, but if you look closer, you will find two programs on the rise – and this district matchup promises to showcase teams that are ready to contend for a district title. Huge Friday matchup that will tell a lot!

No. 7 Christopher Columbus at No. 15 Booker T. Washington (Curtis Park), Friday, 7:30. Here is the perfect game this week as two of the area’s powers clash in a game that won’t count in the district, but will tell a lot about how they stand locally. The Tornadoes are coming off a huge win against Southridge – while the Explorers were beaten by No. 1 Carol City.

Homestead vs. No. 9 Homestead South Dade (Harris Field), Friday, 7:30. Nothing else matters on Friday night as businesses close early and life comes to a three hour halt as one of the best rivalries continues – with plenty on the line in this key district and Homestead City championship game. This should be one of those memorable meetings.
