As the fifth week of the season unfolds, it is once again going to be very interesting – with a number of games being spotlighted nationally.

While this year has watched a number of elite matchups during the first four weeks, the best is yet to come – and it continues on Friday with six marquee matchups.

Perhaps the most important game will take place on Friday evening at St. Thomas Aquinas – as the No. 2 Raiders welcome in the No 4 Miami Central Rockets that promises to live up to all the hypes.

If you are a Miami-Dade fan, you got what you long asked for. A full strength battle with over 20 potential D1 level prospects who have competed with – and against each other for years. Major game between two of the most prospect rich programs in the country – and that is a fact!

No. 5 American Heritage-Plantation at No. 8 Chaminade Madonna, Friday, 7. Since the loss to Carol City to start the season, the Patriots are getting it together. The Lions continue to win games, and have been looking forward to this meeting. Doesn’t get any better anywhere in the state – two defending state champions battling in Hollywood!

Cypress Bay at No. 10 Plantation, Friday, 7. On the surface, this would NOT be a marquee game, but the success of head coach Josh Shapiro’s Lightning makes this district game worth watching. Two programs that will have something to say in district play.

No. 15 McArthur at Nova, Friday, 7. Not to say this game is important, but a McArthur win would certainly give the surprising Mustangs a commanding lead in the district – and a chance to be a very high seed. A Nova win puts all the teams in this district back in play. Should be a very entertaining game.

Belen Jesuit vs. No. 7 Christopher Columbus (Tropical), Friday, 7:30. While this has really never been a true rivalry – from a football standpoint, with the Explorers holding a huge lead – it is one of the biggest social and educational rivalries we have. This is indeed one of those matchups that split families and often produce some quality performances.

Booker T. Washington at No. 13 Northwestern (Traz Powell), Friday, 7:30. No matter how you slice this game, it’s a rivalry that has always given fans some memorable moments and while the defending 6A champion Bulls have had a rocky start, this game, against veteran head coach Tim “Ice” Harris has long brought the best out in both teams.
