While several south Florida high school football teams know that they have already made the playoffs, others will use the final three weeks of the 2018 season to secure a coveted post season spot.

With key district and non-district games coming up the next few weeks, every game becomes important –whether you are top seed – or a team that is just looking to get any seed.

With Orlando being the destination once again in the first week of December, this is certainly the time of year when everyone turns it up a few notches.

Here are a few key games to check out this week:

Booker T. Washington at No. 1 Carol City, Thursday, 7, Traz Powell Stadium. Playing one of the most challenging schedules in the country – with just about every local power on the slate, head coach Tim “Ice” Harris and his team has to face one of nation’s best – and try to slow head coach Benedict Hyppolite and his team down.

Doral Academy at Chaminade-Madonna, Friday, 7. Two teams that are already in the playoff race – with the defending 3A state champion Lions playing their final regular season home game against a 7A program that will win the district for the second year in a row under head coach Jace Stewart. The Lions and head coach Dameon Jones are tuning up for the playoffs.

No. 2 Central at Northwestern, Friday (Traz Powell), 7:30, Traz Powell Stadium. This is always one of those classics that you never want to miss, but this year the stakes are a bit different for head coach Roland Smith and the Rockets – as they will head into the game with so much to gain. As they both battle Carol City for the top spot in 6A, this will bring together programs that have dominated over the past decade. For Max Edwards and his defending 6A state champion Bulls, the objective now is to try and get to .500 on the season.

No. 5 South Dade at No. 12 Palmetto, Friday, (Tropical Park), 7:30. Huge matchup that is a must win for Palmetto, which already lost to Southridge. The unbeaten Bucs win this game and will control the top seed and home field advantage. The Panthers have had some key injuries down the stretch.
