Remember when Adam Gase was fired by the Miami Dolphins? It feels like a lifetime ago.

Fast forward four months, and now he's not only the head coach of the New York Jets, he's also their general manager...

The Jets announced the move on Wednesday, after firing former GM Mike Maccagnin.

Maccagnin is the guy who presumably hired Gase back in January, so it's quite surprising to see how quickly his working relationship with Gase deteriorated.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, clashes between the two were a factor in Maccagnan's removal:

Gary Myers of The Athletic adds a further wrinkle:

A huge question that needs to be answered is this: Will Gase be responsible for picking the next permanant GM? If so, who will report to whom?

Gase's control of the 53 man roster in Miami was often criticised during his time in Miami. Now, the New York Jets are giving him similar power. This can't end well, can it?
