Big Weekend For The Panthers After Another Tough Loss

The Florida Panthers couldn't hold on to a 2-1 lead against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. The Cats fell 3-2 in regulation, dropping both of two possible home points. Every bit counts with the Cats currently sitting tied for the fewest points in the East at 22. They've played a game or two fewer than most, but games in hand don't mean a thing if you aren't producing wins.

This weekend, the Panthers have a chance to prove a point. Like many who have watched this team and know what these players are capable of, I do not believe this team has come anywhere close to hitting their potential. This group, led by the likes of Aleksander Barkov, Mike Hoffman, Evgenii Dadanov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Aaron Ekblad, are far too talented to be in the cellar of the Eastern Conference.

On Friday and Saturday they'll face two of the toughest teams in the NHL on back to back nights at home. The Buffalo Sabres have won 10 straight games and boast the NHL lead at 36 points. They visit the Panthers on Friday. On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Lightning - third in the East at 35 points - come to town. Coming away with 3 or even all 4 points this weekend could give this team the confidence they need to get back into the playoff chase.

Meanwhile, the BB&T Center will be a lot of fun this weekend. Saturday against the Lightning is Star Wars Night. Marc Hochman and Channing Crowder showed off their Dark Side inspired gear at the arena on Wednesday.
