A transition of leadership on the Florida Panthers is happening right before our eyes.

On Monday, 23 year old Aleksander Barkov was named team captain, making him the tenth captain in Panthers' franchise history.

He's the youngest player to ever wear the "C" on a Panthers jersey. He inherits the honor from 37 year old Derek MacKenzie.

Barkov is the right man for this job. He's the best player on the team and has been leading by example since before he was old enough to legally drink. The transition from MacKenzie to Barkov sends a clear message: The Panthers' youth movement, led by Barkov, Ekblad, Trocheck, Bjugstad and Huberdeau, is ready to lead

While he may not be loud and boisterous, he commands the respect of everyone in the locker room. He leads both through his words and his actions.
