Florida Panthers Still Searching For First Win In Season Of High Expectations

At some point, Panthers will figure things out and go on a nice run. In the meantime, they're just 0-2-2 with 2 points over their first four games.

Team captain Aleksander Barkov is already doing amazing things...

However, Florida's inability to close out games where they lead (they've blown 2 third period leads already, and had a comeback bid fall short in Philly), and inconsistency in net have contributed to a frustrating start.

Roberto Luongo got injured in the opener and will likely miss another week or 2. James Reimer and backup Michael Hutchinson have been inconsistent. Even at 39 years old, Luongo is still among the NHL's elite at goaltender. This team needs him healthy to be a playoff contender.

The Cats have scored 12 goals over their first 4 games. I don't expect offense to be an issue for this team, at least not at even strenth. We've seen some tweaks on the power play, where they've only scored once so far. Once their defense and goaltending find a groove, the wins will come.

The expectation for this team is playoffs or bust, and the slow start hasn't changed that. They have too much talent to miss the postseason again.

The Panthers will play another road game tomorrow (Friday, October 19th) in Washington. They'll return home on Saturday to host Detroit. You can hear both games on 560 WQAM.
