Hurricane Hotline: Jim Larranaga Says Bruce Brown Will Not Play In NCAA Tournament

Miami Hurricanes head basketball coach Jim Larranaga joined Hurricane Hotline on Tuesday to preview the NCAA Tournament. His Canes own the 6-seed in the South Region. They will open tournament play on Thursday, March 15th in Dallas, set to face 11-seed Loyola-Chicago. Tipoff is set for 3:10 PM.

Coach L revealed earlier Tuesday that guard Bruce Brown would be in uniform on Thursday, but won't play. The sophomore guard has missed 11 straight games with a left foot injury. The revelation that Brown will dress for the game left many to wonder if he might be available to Miami later in the tournament if the Canes can advance.

Coach L addressed that question on Tuesday night.

"He was cleared by the doctors. He's not going to play, though," said Larranaga. "He's been in a boot for six weeks. He's going to need four to six weeks to rehab that foot and his leg. But it's a good sign, because it means he healed very well and on schedule. There was no delay and no complication. So, for Bruce's future, whether it's to return to the University of Miami for his junior year or to turn professional, everyone should be happy to know that he's healthy again. He's going to be 100-percent. He's going to be able to start working out and slowly rehabbing, and getting himself in great shape."

So, as Larranaga said, it's good news for Bruce's future. Miami's immediate future, however, will not involve his services on the court for the NCAA Tournament.
