The first week of spring practice is in the books for the Miami Hurricanes. On Monday, head coach Mark Richt joined The Joe Rose Show with Zach Krantz to discuss his team's progress.

On how the quarterbacks behind incumbent starter Malik Rosier are faring so far: "They're getting reps. In the springtime there's no scout team, so everybody gets to work with our system. I have all these guys getting good quality reps and we are still installing our system. Everybody has a good idea of what they're doing other than (true freshman) Jarren (Williams), but I'll tell you this, he's a quick learner and he's got some really good arm talent."

On 5-star freshman running back Lorenzo Lingard: "He's like a lot of mid-year guys, just learning what to do. We're putting things in at a veteran's pace, because most everybody in the room knows whats going on, so those young guys really have to work hard. But, you can see his attitude and effort is unbelievable. He's a high energy guy. He's strong, he's fast, and you can see he's got the ability to let his insticts take over."

On the defensive line: "Really thin. The guys that are in there are doing well. Gerald Willis... nobody can block the guy, at least not at a consistent basis. Pat Bethel is solid as you can imagine, doing a great job. (Jon) Ford is getting in there, and Tyreic Martin. When our threes go against each other, we literally go 7-on-7 at that time, becuase there's not enough defensive linemen to even function right now. Help is on the way." The help Richt refers to will come in the form of true freshmen and transfers who aren't yet enrolled.
