Miami Heat Drop Orlando Opener, Look To Bounce Back In DC

For the second straight season, the Miami Heat opened a new year with a loss to the Orlando Magic. The Magic have taken 7 of their past 11 meetings with the Heat.

Orlando held on for a 104 - 101 win on Wednesday night, spoiling game one of the Dwyane Wade farewell tour. Wade, in the first leg of his final 82 regular season games, scored 9 points with 11 rebounds in 26 minutes.

Even on the road, Wade received a tremendous ovation.

The headlines off the court go to Wade, but on the court it was all about Goran Dragic. Miami's starting point guard scored 26 points, while Josh Richardson added 21. Aaron Gordon shined for the Magic with 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Hassan Whiteside's effort and production can't be overlooked, either. The embattled Heat center collected 18 rebounds to go along with 12 points. He looked engaged and aggressive during his 34 minutes on the court.

Miami is already being plagued by the injury bug. Dion Waiters (ankle), Wayne Ellington (ankle), James Johnson (hernia surgery), and Justise Winslow (hamstring) all missed the opener.

The Heat won't have to wait long for a chance to bounce back. They'll face the Wizards on the road in Washington TONIGHT (October 18th.) Tipoff is set for 8:00pm, and you can listen to the game on our sister station, 790 The Ticket.
