The Miami Heat Look To Acquire Russell Westbrook

The Miami Heat are working on a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to acquire eight-time NBA all star Russell Westbrook.

Perhaps you thought Pat Riley was done for the summer after getting Jimmy Butler to South Beach. Think again.

The Westbrook idea might some like a pipe dream. Afterall, Miami has no cap space, little to no draft assets, and few players one might consider hot commodities.

However, with OKC enterting rebuilding mode after sending Paul George to the Clippers, an important next step for the Thunder will be getting Russ' $41 million salary off the books. He has four seasons left on his $206.7 million deal.

Westbrook's gigantic contract may scare some suitors away, but a Heat team entering "win now mode" would see it as the cost of doing business.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel is optimistic about Miami's chances at landing Westbrook.

"I think he's coming," Winderman told WQAM's Kevin Rogers. "I spoke to someone involved in the situation and I was told 'yeah.' I asked them if I was wasting my time chasing this story, and I was told, 'no, you're not wasting your time.'"

Winderman believes Westbrook will definitely be traded this summer as the Thunder will not want to keep a disgruntled player.

Heat Nation waits as Riley negotiates.
