Reshad Jones Needs To Earn His Starting Job, Says Brian Flores

Reshad Jones is a two-time pro bowler. He's started 107 out of 111 games as a Miami Dolphin.

His starting job is not guaranteed for 2019, though.

Jones has opted to skip Miami's voluntary OTA's. The 31 year old is expected to turn up for mandatory minicamp next week, but he'll have to earn his starting safety job in the eyes of new head coach Brian Flores.

When asked by the Miami Herald's Adam H Beasley if Jones is guaranteed his starting job, Flores replied: "I would say there's no sacred cow, not in this game."

"I think everybody has to work to be a starter in this league, and on this team," Flores said.

It's refreshing to hear Flores say this, but it's also expected. It's rare to ever hear a coach openly admit a starting job is guaranteed to anyone outside of a clear franchise quarterback.

With that said, I do take these comments at face value. Flores will allow everyone on the Dolphins roster a clean slate. He doesn't owe Reshad Jones anything.
