SCOUTING: When it comes to football, there are no guarantees – and nothing is for sure.

Take running back Willie Davis IV for a prime example. Here was a youth football standout, who attended Archbishop McCarthy, standing out immediately as a freshman.

When he made his move to attend Miami Central, the backfield was talented and crowded, and even though he got his chance to do a few things, it was nothing like many had predicted for this gifted young man.

Fast forward to this year – his final season at the high school level – and a move back to Broward County to play for the defending 3A state champions.

While he hasn’t been the feature ball carrier, Davis has been there to do what the Lions needed, and it has been appreciated by every coach on the staff.

Last Friday night – with a third consecutive trip to Orlando at stake – head coach Dameon Jones and his team looked to this solid student/athlete, who happens to have a 3.3 GPA in the classroom.

When this Lions traveled to play Clearwater Central Catholic last Friday, it was this young man who stepped up. His 206 yards rushing carried this team back to the state title game on Saturday morning against West Palm Beach King’s Academy.
