3 FOR THURSDAY: Jackson, Johnson & Logan Are Turning Heads

If you haven’t noticed, we are under way here in summer.

Okay, the calendar doesn’t officially say that its summer, but you can feel it with our 90 degree temperatures – and the football teams and players heading to colleges and universities across the country.

With very few things happening on college campuses across the nation in July, it’s June that is now taking the spotlight – and as you will be able to see from our many blogs in the coming weeks – this is the time of year when putting your best foot forward is essential.

As offers are being handed out by programs across the nation, it is evident that the summer and offseason have turned into quite an important time of year.

As schools such as two-time defending state champions Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3A) and Miami Northwestern (5A), and last year’s winner Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (4A) will tell you, it’s this time of year that makes a difference. Something that runner-up Hialeah Champagnat Catholic (2A), Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (7A) and Miami’s Christopher Columbus (8A) also understand.

Camps, team contact events and 7-on-7 tournaments are giving these rising prospects an opportunity to enhance what they have done in the past – as well as those newcomers, searching for the spotlight as well.

No matter what the status of these athletes may be, you can guarantee that we will have it all for you – each and every day, with our 10 blogs and profiles each week.

Today’s weekly 3 For Thursday will give you a look at a trio of south Florida’s talented prospects – some for the first time – while others are revisited to check in on their progress:

2020 – Gabriel Jackson, QB, Hollywood Hills. One of those quality athletes that many have never heard about, but that’s why we bring you this segment, along with so many other exposure opportunities.

What head coach Brandon Graham is trying to build is a culture like the Spartans’ program of the past. Building around someone who throws the ball around very well and has enough speed to add plenty of balance. This summer will be a huge time for him – getting stronger and wiser.

2020 – Larry Johnson, DT, Davie Western. Absolutely one of the best defensive linemen in south Florida. When you add in his play on the football field and work in the classroom – this is a prospect who is at a different level.

The leader of a unit that could be as could as you get by the time the 2019 season rolls around, this is a worker. In the weight room, he certainly has no equal, and those who doubt his ability, either haven’t watched him play – or gone against him. The offers continue to pour in and will not stop.

2020 – Tramel Logan, DE, Miami Booker T. Washington. Make no mistake about it, when it comes to comparing defensive lines, head coach Tim “Ice” Harris and his Tornadoes can boast one of the best and most athletic anywhere.

While University of Miami 2021 commitments Donnell Harris and Anthony Hundley get much of the attention, here is someone who has quickly jumped into the spotlight, and after an amazing spring, there is no doubt that this playmaker is for real and will certainly be a huge factor in the success of this 4A program this coming season.
