The Last Two Weeks of The Season Will Be Competitive For Those In The Playoff Hunt

If you follow the state RPI rankings each week, you already know that this is indeed the time of year when all the attention is shining on the high school football world.

With the University of Miami and Miami Dolphins not playing at the level many fans would like, high school football is certainly taking center stage and grabbing much of the spotlight.

Like every year in south Florida, late October and into November is when fan interest is at its highest, and it is right now.

If you are a team looking for a playoff spot, this is indeed the time of year when you need to win!

With just two weeks left in the regular season, fans will be treated to some amazing football.

With the new playoff format in place, each game will certainly be thrilling and very important.

This week, we have a few games that will clear up what is a muddy picture right now.

Blanche Ely at Delray Atlantic, Friday, 7. This may be a game that has certainly flown way beneath the radar screen, but is indeed one that will go a long way in determining playoff slotting – when the RPI rankings are released. The surprising Tigers have really turned the corner, and have a chance to fully jump into the spotlight with this district championship game.

No. 4 Central at No. 10 Chaminade-Madonna, Friday, 7. While this will not have anything to do with playoff standing, it has everything to do with pride and getting things right, heading into the playoffs. The Rockets are district champs and a No. 2 seed in 6A behind Naples – while the 3A Lions are looking to get things back on track after a disappointing 21-0 road loss at 8A Vero Beach.

Champagnat Catholic at No. 14 Gulliver Prep, Friday, 4. Now this game does have meaning – as Gulliver Prep is unbeaten and searching for a No. 1 seed in a really impressive 4A. To maintain that lofty ranking, they will have to get by a Lions team that is looking for a 4th consecutive trip to state in 2A. Huge afternoon matchup.

No. 6 Palmetto at No. 9 South Dade (Harris), Thursday, 7. It gets NO better than this. It is as simple as winning and being the No. 1 seed in 8A. Lose and you will most likely be a 5th seed. The Bucs are at home after being beaten for the first time this year by Carol City. The Panthers have been amazing – especially on defense, where they have a string of shutouts. Game of the Week!

Stranahan at North Miami Beach (Traz Powell Stadium), Friday, 7. This is a first ever meeting between these two schools on the football field – and it is truly important as both programs are looking for a playoff spot after losing to district champion Plantation American Heritage. It’s the Dragons and Chargers in a must win contest.
