Emerging South Florida Power Is Ready For 2019

When Nick Turnbull took over the program at Miami Christian, the one-time area standout had a plan to put this program in a spotlight.

As the Victors prepare for the 2019 season, the haunting 20-19 loss to 2A power Champagnat Catholic remains a battle cry for a program that has plenty of talent.

As Turnbull and his team have plenty of respect for the powerhouse Champagnat Catholic Lions, they believe that they have the talent to give this state-rated program a run.

Coming off a 7-2 season, the schedule has been enhanced – starting with a kickoff classic game against defending 3A state runner-up The King’s Academy.

In addition, Calvary Christian, Berean Christian, two-time defending 3A state champs Chaminade-Madonna, Somerset Silver Palms, Merritt Island, 4A power University School, Edison, and North Broward Prep will provide plenty of opposition as they look to make a first-ever state championship appearance.

OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER

While the defense will be solid and loaded with playmakers, the offense is a place where there has been an infusion of talent.

Senior quarterback Armando Posse and his 8th-grade brother, Adrian Posse represent the present and future.

The running game is stacked with quality – starting with freshman Jamari Ford, who already left a huge mark a year ago. Junior Kelly Loiseau, who was one of the elite freshmen two years ago, and Marcus Sawyer are more than capable of doing big things.

Make no mistake that the receiver position has a chance to be very special – with gifted senior Marc Britt leading the way. Senior Trenard Wilson, and juniors Valonsky Jeanty, Henry Mathew and Zuri Thomas are all more than capable of making big things happen.

Freshmen William Fowles and gifted Nathaniel Joseph are big time. Joseph is the younger cousin of former North Miami quarterback Hilton Joseph and current FIU freshman running back Flex Joseph (Miami Central).

Where 2A schools can separate themselves from the competition is upfront – where University of Florida senior commit Jovens Janvier leads the way – with fellow seniors Maykel Gonzalez and Mike Noel.

Junior Ayden Chem and freshman Avery Branch are both solid.

DEFENSIVE SPEED AND TALENT

When it comes to defense, it will be tough to do anything consistent against the Victors in 2019.

Led by highly recruited sophomore defensive end Francois Nolton, this is a solid group.

Seniors Dartrell Rolle, Joey Wilder (DE) and Chad Williams (DE) are talented and make plays. So do juniors Lensky Louis and Niam McMillan (DE).

With senior Russell Henry and sophomore Jermiah Noel, the linebackers will be more than solid.

The secondary is a place that has a lot of talent and potential. Seniors Derrick Lawson, Daryle Reed and Corey Scott bring the experience and leadership. Juniors Ahman Rolle, Allen Lee and Correyon Thomas are all very talented and skilled.

The underclass also looks promising with sophomores Darian Anderson and James Shaw – and freshman Hector Rodriguez.

The kicking game is also in great hands with sophomore Giancarlo Abbate.
