State Championships Begin In Tallahassee

SFHSS TOP 15: State Championships Begin In Tallahassee Thursday; Daytona Next Week

Two weeks remain in the 2019 season, and while it has certainly moved along faster than many of us would have like, lessons have certainly been learned.

With the smaller schools (1A, 2A, 3A) playing for state titles this week in Tallahassee – and next week, with the larger (4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A) in Daytona Beach, the spotlight is still shining on the Sunshine State.

This past week, like each and every round of the state playoffs, watched teams rise and fall.

Here is the way we start in WEEK 16.

1. St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders (7A, 13-0). In running the clock on Venice, head coach Roger Harriott’s team made it happen on both sides of the ball in a convincing 42-0 win. NEXT GAME: Orlando Edgewater for the 7A state title in Daytona Beach on December 14th at 7 p.m.

2. Northwestern Bulls (5A, 12-2). One of the hottest teams in the state scored early and often in a convincing 42-21 win against Tampa Jesuit. NEXT GAME: It’s Orlando Jones for the 5A state title on December 14th in Daytona Beach at 12 noon.

3. Booker T. Washington Tornadoes (4A, 11-2). It was all about defense for a program that has put it all together this year in beating St. Petersburg Lakewood on the road, 9-7. NEXT GAME: It’s Jacksonville Bolles on December 11th at 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach.

4. Chaminade-Madonna Lions (3A, 11-2). The two-time defending state champions rolled on at home with a 28-7 win against Clearwater Central Catholic, 28-7. NEXT GAME: It will be a trip to Tallahassee to play Tallahassee Florida High at 7 p.m. on December 6th for the 3A state championship game.
