The Miami Hurricanes offense will look much different in 2020 as new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee will install a spread look that will play perfectly into the skillset of his new quarterback D’Eriq King.

King joined the Joe Rose Show on Friday morning and talked about the tradition and the defense at Miami.

“Ultimately Coach Lashlee getting hired, he runs the kind of offense I like to play in so that’s why I decided to come,” King said on his decision to enter the transfer portal. “It will be a fast-paced offense, taking a lot of shots and being physical running the ball downhill at people, and just playing fast and free.”

King was very complimentary of his new wide receivers, raving about their speed and route-running, but he was especially excited about his two tight ends.

“I think we have the best tight end room in the country," King said about Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory. "I’m excited to play with those guys.”

As a junior in 2018, King threw for 36 touchdowns as quarterback for the Houston Cougars. He amassed 2,982 yards and only threw six interceptions. He played four games in 2019 before redshirting for the remainder of the season. King has landed on many preseason watch lists, including being a top-10 option in Vegas to win the Heisman.

But, how does the new starting quarterback view the Hurricanes’ chances in 2020?

“The sky’s the limit for this team," said King. "When I say that I really mean it. We have a lot of talent. For now, we are just focusing on putting everything together and being the best we can become every single day and putting the work in every day of camp.”

Miami opens up the season on September 10 against UAB.
