The Miami Hurricanes hit the field for their first scrimmage Sunday night.

This was the first chance the guys have really had to get out and play with less than a month to go before they open up with UAB.  Coach Manny Diaz joined The Joe Rose Show this morning and he was very pleased with how his team looked in their first scrimmage.

“It was a very clean scrimmage and it allowed the guys to play, which has really been the idea of this whole thing,” Diaz said.

The big story heading into this season will be the new offense under Rhett Lashlee and quarterback D’Eriq King, who has received a ton of preseason attention. King had a big night going 15 of 26 with 178 yards passing and four touchdowns.

“He’s had a great camp and he had a great night last night," Coach Diaz said this about King’s performance. "Four touchdown passes through outstanding coverage and we aren’t even live with the quarterbacks, but this guy is tough to tag. We’re still playing tag and he’s hard enough to even get a hand on.”

Miami will open up the season on September 10 when they host UAB at Hard Rock Stadium.
