The Miami Hurricanes opened things up last Thursday with a 31-14 win over UAB. The Canes run game came up big as they racked up 337 yards.

Head Coach Manny Diaz stopped by The Joe Rose Show for his Monday morning interview and spoke about the run attack, their game plan, and how losing to FIU and Louisiana Tech in 2019 fueled his approach to the season opener.

"We made our intentions pretty clear. We wanted to be simple, we wanted to get after this team," Diaz said about playing a Conference USA team in UAB after going 0-2 against the conference last season. “We were just going to impose our will, not turn this thing into calculus, and just get after somebody and see what it feels like to kick someone's ass."

As far as how D’Eriq King played in Week 1...

“I thought he threw it well," said the head coach. "I would say our passing game is where you saw Game 1, just putting it on the grass and not having our scrimmages and that type of stuff I think that’s where you can see some of the attention to detail that will improve.”

Things get much tougher for the Hurricanes, who will travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals at 7:30 on Saturday.  All Canes games can be heard right here on WQAM.
